Re: The value of time in building compassion

May 27, 2008 by drdave

Great posting! This is about learning to sit with our suffering so we can then learn to sit with others. It is a critical part of compassion development.

Now can we get more folks to make informative postings like this?

Why do we need to talk about compassion? Lets just do it!

There is a longer paper on http://www.CompassionSpace.com that addresses the reasons why we need community discourse about compassion. The idea that we don't need to give compassion a voice needs to be examined more closely as it poses harm to our world. The short version of the response to the question is that if we do not give compassion a voice (in our own heads and with others) then what can easily happen is that some other voice will become louder (fear, despair, apathy, frustration, anger). There is historical observation, and research, to support this. So here, on this forum and on the web site, we can begin to give compassion a voice, and help to make it stronger in the world. PASS IT ON!
